Meet David and Wynne
Hi I’m Wynne and many would say that I have been very fortunate in my professional life. I didn’t go to the best school and neither am I academically excellent, but I have had the chance to experience life living and working in Singapore, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Australia. I have a good job. I draw a multi six figures salary and I enjoy the growth and the diversity that my job brings me. There are occasional long hours and there is work pressure but it is manageable. I have travelled to more than 20 countries, I live a comfortable life and those experiences have made me who I am today.
After many years of working in international professional firms and financial institutions, I was frustrated that there are a lot of ‘managers’ but not many what I would call inspiring and empowering leaders. Many had become successful in the corporate world because they knew how to ‘play the game’ well, and many were contented with the security brought by the same paycheck credited on 25th of every month. I was the latter, until 2008 financial crisis.
The financial crisis hit so close to home for me. I witnessed thousands of retrenchments in my workplace and the anxiety resulting from the uncertainty of not knowing who would lose their livelihood next. The memory still sends a chill down my spine today. People close to me lost the means to provide for their families and lost savings that they had spent a lifetime to create. This is when I learned that there is no such thing as “job security” when someone other than me is calling the shots!
In 2016, my father was diagnosed with cancer. My father’s mortality made me realise what matters most in life. I blamed myself for not spending enough time with him when he needed me most. On the other hand I was constantly worried about the amount of time I was taking away from my work and how this would impact my appraisal. Would I have a job to come back to?
I’m extremely fortunate to still have my father with me today, but as I look back now, this was the moment I became aware of the need to create a life where I could choose how and where to spend my time.
My journey to having an online business has been overwhelming, to say the least. I’m someone whose knowledge is limited to email and basic Microsoft office; not what you would call tech savvy. I have paid thousands of dollars trying to figure out how to create my dream location free life. Seminars, courses, mentors, I’ve tried it all. I feel so fortunate to have found the right platform and MOST importantly, and I repeat MOST importantly, the right people to guide me along the journey. If only I had found the Six Figure Mentors (SFM) earlier, it would have saved me the painful loss of time and money that I experienced. It is here that I can give you the benefit of my experience and save you the same heartache.
How I ended up working in my own online business is pretty simple.
I was the national general manager of a training company and earned a pretty reasonable salary. In excess of six figures. company car, travel and bonuses. I should have been content, satisfied and fulfilled even. The reality was that I had three young children I hardly ever saw. I missed weekend sports, music performances, tucking them into bed at night, cuddles, kisses and the warm feeling of a families love. I was overweight, unhealthy, unhappy and generally really unpleasant to be around.
It all ended in divorce and the heartbreak of not being a full-time father to my children. Chasing the corporate dream had led me down a path that I thought was the right one but ultimately cost me everything. I wasn’t being true to myself and I wasn’t living the life I knew that I needed and I paid the price for it.
An amazing thing happens when you decide to make a decision that aligns with who you really are. Everything changes. It’s as if the universe approves and provides you with rewards in exchange for your courage.
Since starting my online journey I have been able to spend more time with the people I love. My mother has dementia and it has been a real gift to be able to spend more time with her and also to be there as a support network for my father.
I have travelled to amazing places. Thus far, we have been in a different country every month this year and our plan is to increase our travel. Swimming off the coast of Malaysia on secluded islands that look like somewhere King Kong resides, to seeing the cherry blossoms in Japan in April. Visiting Australia to spend time with my family and the US and Europe for conferences and sightseeing.
Starting my online business was the best thing I have ever done. I work and live with passion. I am fulfilled and I am always creating.
